Ahhhh, fall has arrived, ushering in a new season of bounty at farmer’s markets, a new school year of advancement and a new life to celebrate. Oh, and a new hashcapade series of lusciousness! Our fall hash-travaganza began at Olympic Provisions, the celebrated charcuterie that is bringing artisanal meats to the masses. We salute you!

Winners of multiple accolades, including America’s Best Charcuterie for their Chorizo Navarre by Bon Appetit, Olympic Proivsions has two locations from which to choose. The first one, along a frequent running route, is in northwest Portland on NW 17th and NW Raleigh. The second location is in southeast Portland on SE Washington and SE 1st. We opted for the southeast location because they can accommodate larger parties for brunch. When our ravenous crew entered, we were pleased to be greeted by meat, literally!

Hungry patrons can take away the secret ingredients for all their delicious meals by simply choosing from the charcuterie case – bacon, frankfurter, wursts, choizos, salumni – for a decadent adventure in carnal gastronomy! (Did I really just type that?!)

I’m not sure if it was the Bloody Mary or the prior night’s adventure, but my Kielbasa Hash picture was blurry, kind of like the blur of the feeding frenzy that ensued! I’m pretty sure I looked like the parents in Hayao Miyazaki’s award-winning anime, Spirited Away. No matter. The kielbasa was delicious and spicy. Bits of lardon anchored the salty & smokey notes while the poached egg’s silky ooze tempered the dish, forging an instant masterpiece – huzzah!

Helping me kick-off another season were Cristina, Kristin, Alina, Maria, Cassi and Cory, Tony, Dana, Suzanne, John and Mary. Now, when Dana and Tony joined, Dana was expecting. Little did we know that days later, perfect little Nathan would be joining the hash family – congrats!

Overall, I’s have to put Olympic Provisions in my Top 10 list of haschapdes! Special thanks to the staff at Olympic Proivsivisions, especially Rachel and Emily.
Happy Hashcapades,
Clark
