50 Cities 50 Hashes: Kseniya Martin at Bistro la Bon in Charlotte! The Charlotte food scene has grown and evolved in the past decade and it has been exciting to watch it grow. Finding a restaurant that serves hash was not difficult, however, finding one that goes beyond the typical Irish fare was a bit more challenging. Enter Bistro la Bon, a local gem located on the edge of a strip mall, serving delicious European fare. Known for their Swedish meatballs and, in my opinion, the best gnocchi in town, they recently started serving hash as part of their Saturday brunch – I knew I found the spot to host the Charlotte Hashcapade! Chef Majid Amoorpour and his team were amazing hosts for the hashcapade and made hash especially for us… on a Tuesday night! He also created a custom vegetarian version for the occasion. We started the night off with a few appetizers. My friend Dion ordered the Roasted Beet & Apple Salad with Passion fruit mustard dressing and the Crab Stuffed Peppadew Peppers topped with Lemon Foam, as did the rest of the table. The peppadew peppers are all the rage at Bistro. And then the reason why we were all there, the hash. After lots of ooh’s and ah’s, the table got quiet as everyone dove into the delicious hash. The Pyttipanna (a Swedish hash) consisted of roasted vegetables, Swedish meatballs, and sausage, topped off with a roasted parsnip and an egg. Absolutely delicious. I also ordered the vegetarian version and devoured it for lunch the following day. A huge thanks to the Bistro la Bon team, Chef Majid, and Katie Levans for being such great hosts!
